As the mission to save traditions continues, here’s a taste you don’t want to miss! A “true” taste or “Vera Assaggio” of local Italian culture straight from the source.
Assaggio is going to Italy and you’re invited!
For this year only, I am delighted to invite you to experience two Italian cultural milestones (choose one or do them both!): la vendemmia (the grape harvest and wine making) and il raccolto delle olive (olive picking and olive oil making). A locals-only version of Italy where we dive deep into the heart of Italian traditions.
My great uncle, Zio Alfredo, has invited us to share in these treasured family traditions at his beautiful home in the countryside of a gorgeous town in Italy called Scalea, in the province of Calabria.
He grows his own grapes and makes his own wine. He cultivates olives and produces his own homegrown olive oil and is quite the olive oil connoisseur.
Zio Alfredo was one of the very first people who inspired me to begin my tradition-saving journey and I can’t wait for you to meet him!
Celebrations will take place from 21–25 September 2023 for la vendemmia, and 12–16 October 2023 for il raccolto delle olive. The cost for each experience is AUD$900, plus AUD$260 for four nights accommodation (twin share) in Zio’s charming Villa, a cosy bed & breakfast nestled in the heart of the Italian countryside. This includes the headline experience, all main meals, a countryside exploration, a tour through the old town and a memorable cooking class from a local master (my Zia Lucia!).
The town itself is a hidden gem along the Italian coastline and a popular holiday destination for Italians. Think “sea meets the countryside”!

We’ll be invited into their homes and become part of the family in one of the most beautiful places on earth!
